Alice Schmidt

Mrs. Alice L. Schmidt, 90, of Frederick, MD passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Friday, August 23, 2013 at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter J. Schmidt.

Born on September 10, 1922 in Maine she was the daughter of the late Howard and Ethel Valentine Leighton.

Mrs. Schmidt was a graduate of Towson State University. She taught school for Montgomery County Public Schools. Alice was formerly a member of First Church of God where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and also served as treasurer. She was most recently a member of Seneca Creek Community Church. In her spare time, Alice enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking, cooking, gardening and making floral arrangements. Alice was also a member of the Red Heart Club and the Women's Christian Temperance Union.

She is survived by her daughter Judy Schmidt of Frederick, grandchildren Ashley Murphy and husband Justin and Tiffany Sirtautas; sisters Jean Testermen of Ellicott City and Eleanor Cunningham of Gaithersburg and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her brother Howard.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 29 at 11 AM.

Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
