Betty Elaine Harris Smith, 77, of Frederick, Maryland died June 2, 2015 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. She was the wife of the late Eric Maxwell Barrington Smith.

Born February 19, 1938, in Frederick, she was a daughter of the late Michael Gabriel Harris and Helen Gertrude Bowins Harris.

She lived in Harlem, New York for 37 years. She was a proud retiree from the Head Start program in New York City, with 25 years of committed service.

Betty loved her dog, Bullet. She attended Hope Hill United Methodist Church. She enjoyed caring for her family, shopping on QVC, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Betty is survived by five children: Michael E. Harris (Fiona) of Ireland; Mark W. Harris (Sharon) of Falling Waters, WV; Tina D. Spencer (Kim) of Mt. Airy; David E. Smith of Frederick; Stephen I. Smith (Tyra) of Hagerstown, MD. She is also survived by: 19 beloved grandchildren, including: Gabriel, Janadell, Kayleigh, Channon, Tiana, Hannah, Joe, Sadhbh, Michael, Sam, Marcus, Schazaire, Akelia, Jeffrey, Canaan, Jencie, Blake, Mark A., Aspen; 16 great-grandchildren, sharing a special bond with Jy’cier Smith and Maxine Smith, sister Joe Ann Lee (Carl) of Adamstown, MD; niece Pamela, nephew Corby; cousins JudyAnn Harris Hill, Doris Harris Pittman, Mary V. Harris, LaVern Dailey Blackwell, Sidney Bruce among many more cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Norman Michael Harris (Buddy), in 1946.

Betty will also be remembered by The Centerville Reunion Committee and her special friends Shiree Beander, Velma Lawson and Sierra Thompson.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to services.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 12 at Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick with Rev. Joyce Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Della Cemetery, Dickerson, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society-Hope Lodge 636 W. Lexington Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.
