Claudette Little

November 4, 1941 — October 29, 2019

Ms. Claudette Elizabeth Cowan Little, age 77, of Frederick, Maryland passed away on October 29, 2019 under the care of Frederick County Hospice, in the home of her daughter.  She fought a good fight against pancreatic cancer.

Claudette was born on November 4, 1941, in Washington, D.C. to Lawrence Cowan and Dorothy Ethel Newton Cowan.  Claudette was previously married to Charles Little, Jr. with whom they had children.

Claudette was a graduate of Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School located in Washington, D.C.  She retired from the Federal Government Commerce Department.  During her employment with the Commerce Department she served as the Union Representative for her Division.   Over the years she worked as a Food Service Worker, Healthcare Worker, Childcare Provider, and Security Guard.   She worked hard to provide for her children and sacrificed much.  She grew up in the church, going to church daily with her mother and grandmother.   As an adult she continued to study the Word of God. Her faith was strong and she loved the Lord.

Claudette was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.  Her family meant the world to her.  She would do anything for them.  She loved dogs especially Cotton and CJ (Cotton Jr.).  She treated her dogs like they were her children.  Her favorite colors were baby blue and black.  She had gorgeous eyes and hair, and a beautiful smile.  Not only was she beautiful on the outside, but she was just as beautiful on the inside.  She often helped raise other children with lots of love.  She collected elephant decorations with upward pointed trunks and figurines.  She believed an upward pointed elephant trunk dispenses energy, luck, prosperity and kindness.  She also loved watching Charlie Chan movies all day long! She loved solving mysteries.  She would say “they kept her brain sharp.”

Claudette is survived by her sister, Laverne Blocker (Melvin Blocker), and four children, Charles Little, III (Tajuana Little), Dorothy Crews (Chester Crews), Claudette Mantack, and Keary Little, Sr. (Lavinia Little).  Claudette has ten grandchildren including her oldest grandson Daron Little, three great-grandchildren, three nephews (Darrell, Gerald, and Stanley), and a host of family members and dear friends.  She was preceded in death by both parents, her middle daughter, Deneise Little (aka “Nenie”), her niece (Lavonne Marie Butler), and her nephew (Allan Winston Martin).

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 10:00-11:00 am at Asbury United Methodist Church, 101 West All Saints Street, Frederick, MD 21701.  A Celebration of Claudette's Life will follow at 11:00 a.m.

Claudette will be remembered as a beautiful woman with a kind and loving heart who loved her family and the Lord.  She was a blessing to anyone who knew her.  Her spirit will be with us forever.

“If you by chance wish to remember me do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you.  If you do what I have asked, I will live forever!”
