Daniel Makosy

Daniel Mark "Coach Moo" Makosy, 57, of Mt. Airy, Maryland, passed away, peacefully, Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. His wife, Gloria Makosy, of 13 years survives him.

Born February 28, 1959 in Colver, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John Makosy and Rita Shea Makosy of Revloc, PA

Coach Moo was a graduate of Central Cambria High School Class of 1977. He was a self-employed contractor with a BS degree in accounting from the St. Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania where he was starting LB for four years and, in 1981, ended as Captain. His coaching highlights included 28 years coaching at the high school level, 18 years as Head Coach at the high school level and 10 years experience as an Assistant coach. In 2003, 2005 and 2007 he lead the Damascus High School to the state championships, the same years his three young sons were born. 2009-2013 he was Head football Coach at Hammond High School, from 2014-2015 he was Head football coach at Kennedy High School.

He was a coach that believed "Every Player Every Play." In 2012, Coach Moo was an Inductee to the Maryland Coaches Hall of Fame, was the Montgomery County coach of the year four times and after the 2007 season his team ranked the number one public school football program in the State of Maryland by AP voters for new millennium with a 145 - 38 record as Head Coach and he qualified for playoffs 10 straight years at the Damascus High School. In 2005, Coach Moo was awarded both the AP Coach of the Year in the State of Maryland and, in October, was awarded the Washington Redskins Coach of the Week. He was the head coach of the Maryland vs. Virginia Super 45 All Star game held in 2001, Coached Hammond High School to first County Championship and first playoff victory in school history in 2010.

Winning many championships, Coach Moo played rugby for the Maryland Old Boys, affectionately known as the MOB . He played and was president of the Frederick Rugby Club, bringing that team to the national championship.

Enjoyed going to his hunting camp in Pennsylvania and, with his family and riding dirt bikes together, Dan loved to watch his boys play sports and was especially proud of his eldest son, a U. S. Marine and his only daughter a karate black belt. On a beautiful day one would find Dan on the golf course playing golf.

In addition to his mother and his wife, Dan is survived by his children, Logan Flood, Rylie Flood, Sheadan Makosy, Braxdan Makosy and Quinn Makosy; his brothers and sisters, Jack Makosy and wife, Sue, Sharon Makosy, Susie Stoy and husband, Leo, Gary Makosy and wife, Sharon and Doug Makosy and wife, Chris; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Hazel Powell; brother-in-law, Andy Powell and wife, Darlene; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Damascus Road Community Church, 12826 Old National Pike, Mt. Airy.

A Celebration of LIfe will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, November 26th at the Damascus Road Church with Rev. J. Andrew Beall and Pastor Clark Baisden officiating.
