Doris Ambush

February 15, 1938 — June 25, 2019

Doris Elaine Bowie Ambush was born to the parentage of Thomas Bowie and Mable Disney Bowie on February 15, 1938.  Doris, who was affectionately called “Bing” by her family, graduated from Lincoln High School in Frederick.  She married the love of her life — Robert “Bobby” Ambush — on May 29, 1959.  Their joy was made complete with the birth of their son — Robert H. Ambush, Jr.  Doris and Robert celebrated 60 years of marriage in May of 2019.

Doris began her career as a stock clerk at Peoples Drug Store, when she was 18 years old.  She eventually became a Floor Supervisor.  When Peoples Drug Store was sold to CVS Drug Store, she continued to work there, eventually retiring as an Assistant Manager after a long career as a valued employee.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.  A longtime member of Asberry United Methodist Church in Frederick, Doris joined the St. Paul AME Church in Dickerson, Maryland, where her husband was a member.  She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Paul at the time of her death.

Faith, family, friends, and fun describe her life.  She loved Bingo, shopping, the Golden Corral, hats, and horses, but not necessarily in that order.  Doris lived an authentic life — always being true to herself.  Her only true disappointment in life was having only one grandchild.  Doris loved, cherished, and spoiled every child who crossed her path.

Doris was welcomed into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 25, 2019.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Peggy Bowie, and her brother William “Buck” Bowie.

Doris leaves to mourn her husband, Reverend Robert H. Ambush; her son, Robert H. Ambush, Jr. (Rozana); her daughter, Reverend Delonia A. Watson; her grandson, Zachary Osborne; her sister, Betty Hall; her brothers, Ellsworth Bowie and John Thomas; her “bestest” friend, Dottie Hurd; her “goddaughter,” Carlyle Seabolt; other beloved family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 10-11am on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. A home going service will begin at 11am at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick following the services.
