Doris Boyd

September 1, 1940 — November 21, 2020

Marilyn Boyd, also known as, Mom, Grammy, and Nana, formerly of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and Hatboro, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020.

She was the beloved daughter of Doris Klepfer Wonderly and James Wonderly Sr.; the loving mother of Daniel Boyd, Danette Boyd-Perez (Robert), Sharon Panakis, Belinda Taheri, and former sons-in-law and daughter in-law, Konstantinos Panakis, Arman Taheri, and Robin Brown; as well as her pussycat, Squeaker, and countless “surrogate” children who called her “Mom.”

She will also be dearly missed by her sister, Elizabeth Anne Lee (Charles), James Wonderly (Judy), ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild. We take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her mother and also her companion of 30 years, Richmond Vernon.

In addition to her multitude of friends and her 30+ Christmas sweaters, she is also survived by her boyfriend, Neil Diamond, even if he doesn’t know it.

Marilyn was a devout Christian who dedicated much of her life to service to the community and her church. She was honored to receive a Seabury Celebration of Service award from the Episcopal church in 2018 for her years of dedication and support.

One of her proudest accomplishments was being present for all of her grandchildren’s birthdays and graduation ceremonies. In fact, in 2018 she traveled from Maryland to Texas, Texas to Maryland, and Maryland to Wisconsin in the span of a week to attend five of her grandchildren’s graduation ceremonies.

In addition to her selflessness, she will always be remembered for her love of her family, Christmas time, church, baking, listening to Neil Diamond, pussycats, Jonathon Livingston Sea Gull, getting her nails done, playing skee ball, her Byer’s Carolers collection, wearing Alfred Dunner outfits, playing Bejeweled, Words with Friends, and Candy Crush, and watching Jeopardy!.

We will miss receiving cards from her on every holiday (and we mean every holiday), enjoying her delicious cookies and cakes, our family girls’ trips to OCNJ, playing Kansas City Rummy together, and watching Hallmark Channel with her, among numerous other traditions. But, most of all, we will miss her trademark special smile.

A virtual Episcopal memorial service will be held Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 11 a.m. EST. Zoom details will soon be available. Plans for a post-pandemic celebration of her life next summer will be made available when known. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Episcopal Church Outreach Programs, PO Box 187, Upper Marlboro, MD 20771. Or, if you prefer, consider sponsoring a holiday “angel” child in need in her name as Marilyn did for decades.
