Elizabeth Schwaab

May 30, 1928 — April 19, 2021

Elizabeth (Betty) Louise Schwaab (nee Barron), 92, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed on Monday, April 19, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Born on May 30, 1928, in Baltimore City, MD, Betty was the daughter of Edward Anthony Barron and Bernice Nellie (Waugh) Barron, both of Baltimore City.  She was a 1947 graduate of Western High School and worked on the reunion committee every year, up to and including the 65th anniversary, which was the most recent reunion for that graduating class.  After her youngest child started school, Betty returned to the workforce and served many years as a secretary at Catonsville Jr. High School.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Robert Earl Schwaab, her daughter Kathy Witty (Patrick), son Barry Schwaab (Cathy), and daughter Joan Marie Bodley, in addition to six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her youngest child, Richard Schwaab (Barbara).

Betty was known for her talent in the kitchen by friends, family, and neighbors.  She was a savvy cook and impressive baker.  Her famous Christmas sugar cookies and homemade breads, especially her Easter raisin bread, will be missed by all. When her children were little, Betty would fill the family station wagon with neighborhood kids and go on many adventures to Gwynn Oak Park, Enchanted Forest, or spend the day on the Severn River. Her and her family also made annual trips across the bridge to Ocean City. Her loving and kind nature, as well as her empathy for animals, was passed down to her children. Her life was filled with many dogs and cats who found their forever home with her.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Stauffer Funeral Home, on 8 East Ridgeville Blvd. in Mt. Airy, MD.  A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Rev. Tim May.  Due to COVID restrictions, there will be a 50-person limit inside the funeral home and masks will be required to enter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Carroll County online at hscarroll.org/donate or by mail at 2517 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, MD  21158.
