Frances Mary MooreApril 26, 1920 ~ January 20, 2016 (age 95)
Mrs. Frances Mary Moore, 95, of Frederick, MD, died January 20, 2016 at Country Meadows in Frederick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Martin Moore, on April 9, 2013.
Born April 26, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Eva Berti Cabre.
Frances was trilingual, fluent in Spanish, Catalan, and English. Her facility especially in the first two was due to her parents, who were from Barcelona, Spain. Although Frances was born in Brooklyn, NY, and went to school in New Brunswick, NJ, her parents took her to Spain, Cuba, and Argentina. She spent nearly 15 years in Buenos Aires, with positions open to bilingual (Spanish-English) individuals, a relative rarity during those pre-World War II years. It was there she met Jack, her husband of nearly 68 years. They were virtually inseparable from the time they met. Frances loved chess, cooking, nutrition, and the Washington Redskins. Most of all, however, she loved her family and took great pride in them all, as mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, delighted to be a babysitter when needed and a game participant in family adventures with the young ones. Finally, she had a wicked and witty sense of humor, although she was unfailingly kind and gentle with everyone. On one occasion, a year after Jack had passed, a lady at the assisted-living facility where Frances lived suggested that Frances attend a social function so that she “could meet some men.” Without missing a beat, Frances said, “No, thank you, I’ve already had the best,” as she continued walking down the hall.
Frances is survived by her beloved family, who were devoted to her and who will miss her terribly. They are her three children, Alicia Stine and husband, James, of White Plains, MD, Nancy Moore of Chandler, AZ, and John Moore and wife, Vicki, of Mt. Airy, MD; seven grandchildren, Kevin Stine, Erin Yim, Darin Stine, Robin Stine, Ryan Moore, Steven Moore, and Stephanie Moore; and seven great-grandchildren, Andrew Stine, Matthew Stine, Lauren Stine, Jonathan Yim, Christopher Yim, Madison Moore, and Lyla Moore.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2016 at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
