Frederick (Fred) Basgier, III

February 5, 1948 — March 8, 2020

Frederick (Fred) M. Basgier III, age 72, went into the open arms of Jesus during the early morning hours of March 8, 2020 at his home in Monrovia, MD.  On December 27th Fred and Sally celebrated 50 years of marriage together.  Since their meeting in 1966, followed by their marriage in 1969, Fred entertained his wife Sally with his many talents.  Whether fishing, crabbing, camping, wood working, leather working, creating jewelry, doing further studies of various kinds, and most recently obtaining Certificate as a Lay Speaker, Fred was always busy beyond his formal education and career.  Though beginning in the study of medicine at the University of Maryland, Fred changed careers and retired in 2007 after 35 years of teaching Middle and High School Science.  In addition to being a licensed contractor of Fred’s Painting and Repair, he was also active with Marriage Encounter United Methodist, Boy Scouts of America, Order of the Arrow, and even established an Explorer Troop for his children and their neighborhood friends.

In addition to his loyalty to wife Sally W. Basgier, Fred was the loving father of son Daniel Basgier (Jen Fitze-Basgier) of Hubert N.C, and daughter Sara Basgier-Bollinger of Smithsburg, MD and a devoted Pop (grandfather) to Ashlee Reese-Basgier, Aaron Fitze-Manning (Bud) and Jeremiah Bollinger.  Preceding Fred were his parents Frederick M. Basgier Jr. and Katie Pannell Basgier of Baltimore MD.  He is also survived by beloved sisters Pauline Amodio (Frank Amodio), Patty Casper, and June Basgier, along with their beloved children and grandchildren, and numerous cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main Street Mount Airy, MD 21771 on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 1:00 pm with fellowship directly following in the narthex of the church.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Calvary United Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice in his name.

Love is all that matters.  Love is everything.  It is the sharing of songs and of silences. It is the holding on of memories only the heart can see.  In nothing are we as rich as in our memories of love, for they are ours alone.
