Mrs. Helen M. Beck, 83, of Frederick, MD, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011, at the Kline Hospice House. She was the beloved wife of Dr. Earl Beck. They celebrated their 58 th wedding anniversary on August 23, 2010.

Born November 6, 1927, in Martins Creek, PA she was the daughter of the late Vernon C. and Elsie Hester Mack.

Helen was a 1945 graduate of Bangor High School where she was voted the prettiest girl in her class. Local magazine, Homefront, honoring local service members during WWII, named her Fairest of the Month. She also graduated from Churchman Business College in 1949. Helen started her career as a Secretary for the Portland Sand and Gravel Company. After marrying she was an Administrative Assistant/Secretary for Penn State University, Ohio Northern University, Ft. Detrick, NIST and Frederick Cancer Institute.

She really enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, bridge and playing other card games. Helen was a phenomenal cook and enjoyed shopping, knitting, going to the beach and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she is survived by children Stephanie Barrows of Frederick and her children Christopher and Sarah Graham, Jeff Beck and wife Debra of Smithsburg and their children Elizabeth and Maria, and Tim Beck and wife Lisa of Smithsburg and their children Cassie and Evan; sister Doris Deen of Mt. Bethel, PA and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen will also be remembered by special friends Alice Abbott, Ruth Jansen and Dr. and Mrs. Richard Costlow.

Friends may call from 10-11AM on Wednesday, June 8 at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 W. 2 nd St., Frederick, where services will begin at 11AM. The Rev. Kenneth Dunnington and the Rev. Harry Cole will officiate. Interment will be private.
