Ida Hamilton

Ida E. "Sis" (McGowan) Hamilton, 92, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday morning, December 28, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at her daughter's home.

Born on February 4, 1919, in Washington County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Nelson W. and Ida V. (Marshall) McGowan.  Her husband, John D. "Boonie" Hamilton preceded her in death on March 6, 2003.

Ida was employed by Dorbee Manufacturing in Hagerstown as a presser where she worked for twenty years, retiring in 1970.

Ida loved taking car adventures with her husband through the mountains and to Florida.  In her spare time, she also enjoyed putting puzzles together and sewing.

She is survived by her three daughters, Beatrice Andrews, Deloris Marshall, and Barbara Hamilton, all of Hagerstown; three sons, Richard Hamilton and his wife, Audrey of Tallahassee, Florida, George Hamilton and his wife, Janice and Wayne Hamilton and his wife, Joyce both of Hagerstown.  In addition, Ida is survived by three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ida was preceded in death by a sister, Annabelle Forsythe; and two brothers, Charles and Oscar McGowan.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  The Rev. Dale Carver will officiate.  Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Samples Manor Cemetery near Sharpsburg, Maryland.

Family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2012 at the funeral home.  For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open after 12 noon on Monday.
