James Abernethy

James Abernethy, 61, of Middletown, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD. He was the husband of Ellen G. Abernethy, his wife of 26 years.

Born on April 1, 1958, in Bethesda, MD, he was the son of John Curtis Abernethy and the late Patricia Houck Abernethy.

The past few weeks have been challenging, but they paled in comparison to this week. As many of you know, my dad had been dealing with ongoing health issues that came to a head recently, and that ultimately took him this past Sunday.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Sarah Abernethy of Gaithersburg; brothers and sisters: Mary Pat Orenstein, Regina Early, Joey Abernethy, Johnny Abernethy, Christine DeVlaming, and Michael Abernethy.; James will be joining his late sister, Michelle Reilly.

For anyone who would like to come retell all his bad jokes, recall how talented he was, or remember his antics (or just remember him, period, of course); we will be hosting a visitation from 3-6 PM on Saturday, February 22 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick 21702.

Thank you to so many of you who’ve reached out to check in on my mom and I; we’re both generally sub-par at asking for help or sharing our feelings, so I just can’t adequately express our gratitude for all the love we’ve received in this surprising and awful time; again, thank you.
