James Slifer

August 12, 1925 — November 25, 2019

James Calvin Slifer, 94, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed into the arms of his Lord at Doey’s House in Hagerstown, on Monday, November 25, 2019. He was the beloved husband to I. Nadine (Smith) Slifer whom he married on March 3, 1952 and shared 66 years of marriage with.

Born on August 12, 1925, in Rohrersville, he was the son of the late Luther B. and Orpha M. (Grimm) Slifer. Jim graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1943 and went to work for Potomac Dyeing and Printing Corp. He later retired from Londontown Fog in Williamsport. He was an active lifetime member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Rohrersville. Jim was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving his country from 1952-1954 during the Korean War.

Jim had many hobbies and activities, from the Cub Scouts to Little League and bowling in Turner’s Senior League. He was an avid supporter of the Special Olympics. He was known for his helpful and giving personality.

In addition to his wife Nadine, he is survived by his children, Dianne Collinson and husband Richard, Ronald Slifer and Jennifer Slifer; grandchildren, Chris and Mike Collinson and wife Erin, Aaron Slifer and Melissa Huffman; and great-grandchildren, Addison and Ryleigh Harvey and Bailee and Abel Collinson. He is also survived by his brother, Donald H. Slifer and wife Connie and sister, Doris Mehaffey and sisters-in-law Verle Slifer and Shirley Slifer; numerous nieces, nephews and all of his beloved family.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Rodney Slifer, Ruth Reeder, John Slifer, William Slifer, Paul Slifer and niece and nephew, Marlo and Kevin.

The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Friday, November 29, 2019 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, MD 21713.

The funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 30th at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Boonsboro Cemetery.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice of Washington County in C/O Doey’s House, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742 or to Bethel United Methodist Church, 4300 Main Street, Rohrersville, MD 21779.

The family would like to extend their many thanks to the staff of Doey’s House for their remarkable care, compassion and support during this difficult time.
