John Neander

October 28, 1944 — February 22, 2014

Mr. John Edward Neander , 69, of Frederick died on Saturday February 22, 2014 at his home. He was the husband of Sandra E. Ammenheuser Neander.
Born on October 28, 1944 in Albany, NY he was the son of the late Chester A. and Mary Rose Riccardi Neander.
He served in the Air Force during Viet Nam and retired Lt. LCDR from the Navy. And recently retired after 20 years as a research Meteorologist for the Army Corp. of Engineers at Ft Belvoire VA.
He taught the Weather Merit Badge at Camp Airy Boy Scouts of America. He was the coach for Frederick T-Ball National League, and meteorologist for The Vigilant Hose Company of Emmitsburg. In the 80’s he did weather for WFMD radio in Hagerstown. He was a member of the American Meteological Society, the American Legion and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Frederick.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters Kimberly Neander of Sharpsburg, Meredith Derwin and husband Aaron of Middletown and Sandra McAteer and husband Steve of Frederick. Step-daughter Dawn Chambers of Laguna Beach,CA. Grandfather of six and step grandfather of three. Also survived by his brother Arthur Neander and sisters Carole Neander, Marie Celeste, Linda Donato and Ronnie Caputo all of New York.
Visitation will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 116 East 2nd Street, Frederick on Thursday March 6, 2014 from 10:00am until 11:00am at which time a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Reception will follow at the American Legion in Frederick.
