Julian Tyler, Jr.

January 27, 1960 — February 8, 2020

Julian Elwood Tyler, Jr. son of the late Julian and Luvenia Jean Tyler, after a brief illness departed this life on Saturday, February 8, 2020.
Julian loved spending time with family and friends and had a great sense of humor.  Julian attended Union Baptist Church and was baptized as an adolescent.  He later attended Damascus Road Community Church (DRCC) where he served until his death as an usher and was a member of the Waterboyz Men’s Ministry.
Julian retired from the Howard County Fire Department after 20 years of courageous service as a Firefighter and Paramedic.  His heroic service earned him many letters of recognition and commendation.  Like his dad, affectionately known as “Chink Tyler” or “Daddy Chink”, Julian shared an affinity for carpentry.  After his retirement, Julian pursued his passion to become a licensed contractor carrying on his dad’s legacy of Tyler’s Construction Company.  Later in his retirement, he became a licensed commercial truck driver.
Julian also had an adventurous side to him.  In his earlier years, he loved riding motorcycles. Julian was a great man known affectionately by many names: “Junior Boy”, “Junior”, “JT”, and “Pops”.
Julian is survived by his children: Julian Tyler III, Justin Tyler (Alanna), and Ray Tyler and grandchild: Bryson Tyler. He is also survived by seven sisters: Joyce Ragin (Enoch), Judy Tonkins (Phil), Deborah Allen, Sheila Conway (Bill), Patricia Levroney (Don), Sherrie Pridgen (Charles), and Kelly Tyler (Hussein Ziad); one Brother: Luther Shorter (Utang); his loving Life Partner: Jeanette James; one Paternal Aunt: Mary L. Tyler.  Julian had a close bond with two Maternal Cousins: Gertrude Reed and Thomas Reed, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 from 10:00am - 11:00am at the Damascus Road Community Church,12826 Old National Pike Mount Airy, MD 21771. A celebration of life service will follow at 11:00 am.  Interment will be at Utica Cemetery.
