Robert Rothenhoefer

Mr. Robert John Rothenhoefer of Frederick, died Friday, October 21, 2016. He was the loving husband of Joan Fawley Rothenhoefer for 62 years.

Born in Frederick on June 7, 1931, he was the son of the late Frank Willard and Kathryn Rothenhoefer.

He was a graduate of Frederick High School and the University of Maryland College Park. Jack, as he was affectionately known, went into the Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served in the Korean Conflict attached with the Army Corp. of Engineers. After his discharge, he worked for the Washington Suburban Sanitation Commission (WSSC) and then later as the City Engineer for the City of Frederick.

In 1967, he entered into a partnership with his brother and father and founded Rothenhoefer Engineers Inc.

Jack was a life long member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 684, VFW, Amvets Post #9, and the American Legion.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Robert John Rothenhoefer, Jr. and former wife Rebecca Rothenhoefer of  Frederick; son Gregory Alan Rothenhoefer and wife Cari Rothenhoefer of Casper, Wyoming, and daughter Lori R. Powell and husband Keith H. Powell of Frederick; grandchildren, Clayton Daniel Rothenhoefer, Garrett Andrew Rothenhoefer and wife Bridget, Anna Louise Wyatt and husband Travis, Victoria Anne Rothenhoefer, Molly Clark Rothenhoefer, Justin Hamilton Powell, Jess Robert Powell, Hannah Joan Powell and Kenley Anne Powell; and one great-grandson, Cal Daniel Rothenhoefer.

Jack is also survived by his brother Frank W. Rothenhoefer, Jr. and wife Ethel, and brother-in-law, Robert Fry.

He was predeceased by his sister, Ann Rothenhoefer Fry.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26. Officiating will be the Rev. Harry C. Cole.

Interment will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.
