Robert Violet

Robert (Bob) Hugh Violet, 75, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020, at Doey’s House.

Born July 20, 1945 in Brownsville, he was the son of the late Mildred M. Davis and Harold V. Violet.

He was a graduate of Boonsboro High School, class of 1963. He served with the 1st Infantry Division in the Vietnam War from 1966-1967.  Among his numerous awards were the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Presidential Unit Citation along with the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, he is a member of the Clopper-Michael Post 10 American Legion in Boonsboro. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Brownsville.

He retired as a Water Plant Operator in 1991 from Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC), Potomac, MD.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra D. Violet; and his daughter, Bobbie Jo Violet, both of Hagerstown.  He is also survived by two brothers, H. Donald Violet (Jane) of Hagerstown, and Larry E. Davis (Victoria) of Harpers Ferry, WV; two sisters-in law, Karen Leopold Hoffman of Knoxville, and Cindy Leopold Creamer (Rusty) of Charles Town, WV; and his two adopted grandchildren, Madison Noelle and Robert William Dale Higgs of Charles Town, WV, which he totally adored.

He was an avid golfer, ten pin bowler, and in his later years, became a duck pin bowler as well.  In his ten-pin career he threw 14 perfect 300 games and 14 299 games.   He was a member of USBC Bowlers Hall of Fame and the Franklin County, PA Bowlers Hall of Fame.  He bowled in the Flying Feathers Ten Pin League since the late 1970’s, the Tuesday Night Handicap Duck Pin League, and the Wednesday Night Mixed Duck Pin League, all at Dual Lanes in Hagerstown.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, burial will be private.  A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Doey’s House, 11370 Caring Pathway Lane, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
