Rosa Stringer

January 22, 1926 — July 1, 2019

Mrs. Rosa Johanna (Brendelberger) Stringer, age 93, long time resident of Frederick, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2019, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was predeceased by her loving husband of over 25 years, Jack Frank Stringer; her parents, Johanna and Eduardo Brendelberger; brothers, Edward and Karl Brendelberger; and sister, Annie Reyes.

Rosa was born January 22, 1926, in Karlsruhe, Germany, where during WWII she met and married the love of her life. During her husband’s many military deployments she was a homemaker, waitress and retail manager. Known simply as “grandma” or Miss Rosa, she was everyone’s grandmother, everybody loved her and she loved everyone. She loved life, had a heart of gold, and a smile that lit up the room. Her faith, country and family were everything to her. She cherished her daughters but her grandchildren and great grandson were the loves of her life. She attended all of their soccer and little league games, school events and looked forward to their weekly phone calls. Rosa loved cruising and traveling to Las Vegas with her daughters, doing crossword puzzles, visiting Fort Detrick’s commissary and the Baltimore Orioles. A lifelong fan she never missed a game on tv and enjoyed going to Camden Yards with her grandsons. She enjoyed baking and her tins of Christmas cookies were legendary, no one could make them like she did. Never without a loving dog by her side, she will be sorely missed by her constant companion, Diesel, and family dogs Belle, Gracie and Max.

Rosa is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Andy Holder; Maryann and Keith Hollingshead; and Rosemarie Lawson; her grandsons and their wives, James Gigeous; Bobby and Sandy Gigeous; Herschel Elder, IV; Nathan Lawson; and Brandon and Carlyn Hollingshead. She was the loving great grandmother of Jacob, Hollis, and Taylor Gigeous and Leighton Hollingshead. Rosa recently became a great-great grandmother and was eagerly anticipating the birth of her first great-great granddaughter. She is remembered by Gabe Lawson, Jerry Gigeous, Barry Hager, Loretta and Randy Zimmerman, Tiffany and Skyler, and her neighbor, Christina Hurley, who Rosa loved as family. No words can express the family’s gratitude for the kindness, compassion and excellent care given “grandma”by the 3rd floor nurses, hospice nurses and hospital doctors.

Rosa will be inurned with her loving husband at Arlington National Cemetery, at a future date to be determined. Memorial contributions in Rosa’s memory may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home and Stauffer Crematory, Frederick. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at staufferfuneralhome.com
