Sterling Shane

Sterling Shane, 87, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, June 6, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on September 22, 1934, in Unionville, MD, he was the son of the late Sterling Joseph Shane and Myrtle Elizabeth (Runkles) Shane-Naill.

Mr. Shane worked in the furniture business and was employed by Hoke Furniture Co. in Thurmont for thirty years, before going to Pennsylvania Classics in Littlestown, PA. He retired from Winslow Burthans Co. in 1997. After his retirement, he spent his time as a caregiver for his grandson, which he greatly enjoyed.

Sterling was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing with his best friend, the late Pete Dewees. Anytime he was outdoors he felt at home, he enjoyed watching hummingbirds and being present in nature.

In his later years he was a wonderful caregiver to his wife, and his old loyal friend Rocky. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ruth Shane, Daughter, Lisa Joy Moser and husband Michael; grandchildren Kristie L. Bunnell and Andrew Moser; half-brothers Bernard Naill and Butchy Naill; half-sisters Hilda Haines, Shirley Bernard and Joan Shaffer; special nephews, David Andrew and Kenneth Andrew. The family wishes to thank both of them and Mike Boone for helping the family during their time of need.

Sterling is preceded in death by his daughter Deborah L. Shane, brother Kenneth Shane, sister Margaret Shane-Naill and half-sister Audrey Sparkman.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, June 13, 2022, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A. in Thurmont.

A celebration of Sterling's life journey will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont, MD.
