William Gilmore

October 9, 1925 — December 5, 2020

William Floyd Gilmore, 95, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at his home in Boonsboro, MD.  He was the beloved husband of the late Mildred June Childs Gilmore.

Born on October 9, 1925, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, he was the son of the late Alpha Fry Gilmore and Ruth Aileen (Redding) Gilmore.

He was a 1943 graduate of Jeffersonville (Ind.) High School, and after some time at Michigan State University, he volunteered for service in the US Armed Forces. He served in the US Navy during WW II on the USS Nantahala, in the Pacific theater. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

He was a lifelong dairy farmer and held membership in the Indiana chapter and the American Jersey Cattle Club.

He was never one to sit idle so after he retired from farming, he spent the last 22 years of life working for Washington Co. Weed Control and wood crafting.

He is survived by children: Ann Motz and husband Gary; son, William E Gilmore and wife Susan (deceased), daughter, Linda Gilmore Hadley and husband Donald E., Jr (deceased); six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, P.A., 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, MD.

Funeral services will be private.

Interment will be at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville, Indiana at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
