Deborah Claxton, 75, passed away on October 2, 2025. She is survived by her daughter Rita, son-in-law Ryan, and grandson Julian, as well as her devoted siblings Bob and Claudia. She was eager to be reunited with her beloved husband Jim Claxton, who passed away in 2013. She died at her home in Mt Airy Maryland, surrounded by close family and friends. Her cats Bella and Peanut stayed on her lap through her last hours and refused to leave her side after her passing.
Debbie was born in Washington DC to parents Joe and Geraldine Sitrick. She was a lifelong artist. She created stunning and expressive works of sculpture, pastel, needlepoint, fiber art, and eventually pioneered her own unique medium using complex pieces of cut paper to create painting-like works of art. Those who saw her pieces or knew her process marveled at the detail, concentration, and endurance required to birth these unique creations. She is represented by the Woodward Gallery in New York City and leaves behind her a lasting artistic legacy.
Debbie had a large circle of faithful family and friends. She was generous and supportive, spoke freely about her thoughts and struggles, and used her own health struggles as a source of empathy and compassion for others. She especially adored and was especially adored by her grandson, and loved talking with him about his interests. She changed the lives of many and will be dearly missed.
Her memorial service will take place October 10th 2025 at 1pm at Stauffer Funeral Home in Mt Airy. There will be one hour of visitation beforehand from 12-1. Guests are invited to wear colorful clothing to honor Debbie's love of color and beauty.
